Does the idea of sitting in a dental chair fill you with fear and anxiety? Do you feel nervous or anxious leading up to or during dental treatments? Ask Dr. Travis E. Hampton about sedation dentistry in Covington, Georgia. Sedation dentistry uses medication to help calm anxious patients during dental procedures. At Alcovy Family & Cosmetic Dentistry we offer nitrous oxide and oral sedation.
Nitrous oxide is a gas that is breathed through the nose, producing minimal sedation. With minimal sedation, you are awake, but relaxed. Our dentist will place a mask over your nose, through which you are supplied a mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen. Our dentist can control the amount of sedative you receive. After your procedure, the nitrous oxide will wear off quickly and you will be able to drive yourself home.
With oral sedation, our dentist will have you take a pill about an hour before the procedure. Depending on the dosage given, this can produce minimal to moderate sedation. A patient under moderate sedation may slur and mumble with they talk and may not remember the procedure very well.
We encourage you to contact Alcovy Family & Cosmetic Dentistry today to learn more about sedation dentistry and to schedule a visit with our dentist.
